After baby brunch yesterday I was very brave. The shawl I knitted for Baby No 1 in 1982 was given a gentle cool bath with a little vinegar and gentle soap. Soaked for a couple of hours, then put in a net bag and wool wash cycle in the washing machine. I've never done this before but have been reading lots!
Stretched with pins over white cotton sheet and left overnight.
Loved it as much as the first time! Ready for Sarah and Jonathan to use in July.
Three good things
1. Off white softness of Shetland wool.
2. Laundry pile sorted out.
3. Favourite fragrance arrived yesterday in cute mini bottle.

I did spend many evenings over several months knitting this but I did love doing it. It was the same pattern as the one my mum had made for me - called Tree of Life. Mum loved knitting shawls for babies of family and friends and was knitting them until she was almost 90! The last one she knitted was for her great-granddaughter, Lucy.
When Susannah was on the way I used a different pattern and that shawl is on its way to Australia for Laura to wrap her baby in next month.
Such a beautiful shawl made with love & hope all those years ago......it looks a fine work of art & you're right the shade is so soft & gentle...the perfect wrapping for baby. Two new grandchildren on the way is so exciting!
