I've been multi-tasking today..... preparing some activities for my class on Monday while listening to the Alto part for a choral singing event tomorrow with the Haddo House Choral Society.
We are both participating... Allan is a Tenor.... and neither of us have sung anything quite like this before.
The music book is rather old....if you notice at the bottom right corner you see it cost 15/-.
Well I was at school when we changed to decimal money, and I've lost track of the year!!
The words are in Latin just to add to the complexity of the day. But I'm sure I will enjoy some of it.
Three good things
1. I found the words and translation online so now I have a better idea of what I am singing.
2. Very stormy 18 hours in this part of the country so we're grateful that no significant damage in our space.
3. Gin and tonic.....a little treat. This being February we usually just have soft drinks.
I thought decimalisation was in 1971, did a Google check and find it was indeed that year on the 15th Feb! Lovely to see this old music book. Is there a publication date?
I think I've sung this piece with the choir I belonged to. I've recently given up singing due to my voice 'cracking.
Yes, I remember the date clearly. I was in my first year of teaching, 1st year juniors. We had to teach the children a little song -
'On the first day of February 1971,
There is going to be, decimal currency,
And a hundred pennies in a pound'.
I've never forgotten it!

Thank you for your lovely comments. It's interesting to hear stories about events like decimalisation.
Loved the rhyme Judith.
My Dad was a Maths teacher and had a series of evening classes to reassure and support the staff in local shops. I recall one lady being terrified of the change and was going to retire. But she was able to gain some confidence and was happy in the baker's shop for another twenty years!!!
@busylady I was at junior school then and clearly remember the build up and aftermath to decimalisation! Mourned the sixpences and thruppenny bits particularly and the big old pennies ❤️
