Had a lovely outing with a friend today- went to Touched by Scotland, a lovely gallery/shop with coffee stop/restaurant just a nice distance from home!
We were served by a delightful young man who was chatty and delighted to tell us about his forthcoming Karate trip to Japan!
We did enjoy the blueberry and orange scones with our cup of tea! Purple bordered .....before the cream and raspberry jam was added!!!
And I was also looking out for the display in their teaching area which my neighbour had told me about - by Mary Jean Gardner. What treasures.... given the story shared on the entrance door.
Quilts by Mary Jean Gardner
Mary Gardner, an evangelical Christian and Bible Translator, spent much of her life living in Togo, West Africa, where she worked for Wycliffe Bible Translators.
Since 1989 where she was part of a team translating the New Testament into a language called Ife.
The New Testament was finished in 2009 and Mary had then gone on to work helping other people.
She was in Israel for six months studying Hebrew at the Hebrew University in order to go back to Togo to translate the Old Testament, when her life was sadly taken by a bomb explosion at a crowded bus stop in Jerusalem in March 2011.
On show were some of the beautiful pieces created by Mary from her travels over the years.
What a poignant exhibition. I remember hearing about Mary Gardner's death last year - but what a gift of creativity she had. A beautiful, meaningful collage. And I'm glad you had a good, relaxing day.
@jmj It was lovely to see her work - her parents live near Insch which is not far from the gallery at Oyne, just near 'the Back o' Bennachie' which is a lovely area for walks.........another day perhaps!
I will have to get across to see this lovely exhibition. I don't need much of an excuse to visit there - and have a scone! Your collage tells a poignant story.
Her quilts look lovely! She sounds like an amazing woman of God and when He called her home, she was serving Him as she always did. Now her story lives on in the beautiful pieces she created. Nice collage!
