I love browsing in charity shops and picking up cheap books .. and often buy them at a faster rate than I actually have time to read them! My teeny flat has started to feel a bit cluttered lately, so I thought I'd do some 'de-cluttering' today, and pass some books back to my local charity shop.
I was flicking through some of the books I haven't got round to reading yet, deciding whether to keep them or not .. and in between the pages of one I found £150.00 ... yes, that's right, I just found £150.00 in a book I paid 25p for .... !!!!!!!!
That's the good news!
The bad news is I then realised that the five £20 notes are actually the old £20s that went out of circulation over a year ago, and are no longer legal tender. The other £50 was in £10 notes which are still current.
I've looked online and I can take the £20s into a bank, and they may or may not change them for current tender. They are not obliged to, and if they don't I would have to take them to the Bank of England in London to have them changed.
Worst case scenario, though, I'm £50 better off this evening than I was this morning! If I do manage to get the other £100 changed for current tender, I'll be sure to stick a note in to a charity box next time I go browsing ..
You could make it your own little Dave Gorman project! And do a standup and a book about it! Just make sure you don't spend it on your way. Oops, no, you can't!
:)
@phil_howcroft@zanettie@rainbowsnic42 Thanks all of you - have just been on the Bank of England website, and looks like it's easy enough to post the notes in to get them exchanged, if my own bank won't exchange them .. so the bad news is not that bad, it turns out, and the worst case scenario isn't the case!! Whoop, whoop!!
:)
@maaikel I've found bookmarks and postcards before - but this is a first! Hopefully, the first of many LOL
