Like a lot of people are talking about on the discussion boards, I feel like I've got fewer photo ideas and opportunities now that it's dark by the time I leave work.
Having said that, as I left work there was a bright full moon and I thought I'd have a stab at a moon shot on my way to the bus-stop in Rusholme!
With only my ickle P&S, and no tripod or anything fancy like that, I looked for a flat surface to rest it on so I could do a self-timed, long exposure shot. All that was nearby was a telecom box with a sloping top, so I thought I'd run with that, and crop/rotate the photo later.
By the time I'd faffed about with the timer, and getting the positioning of the camera on the box right, the moon had gone behind a blimmin cloud! I was too weary and ready for home to stand around waiting for it to re-appear ..
I decided I liked the tilted effect, after all, so didn't bother to rotate it .. and I like the lights reflecting in the metal fence on the right, too ..
I like the tilt too. Adds a nice touch. Suggestion: carry a small unopened packet of rice in your car - it makes the best tripod on most surfaces if you don't have one.
@erwhite@daveanajao@phil_howcroft@dmrams@kidatheart@thebluegnu@charli321 Thank you all for your lovely comments about my 'happy accident' lol .. and I like the idea of using a bag of rice as a camera cushion. I don't have a car, though, so probably won't add a bag of rice to my already heavy bag!! :o)
