The Gettysburg Train Station - Most notable as U.S. President Abraham Lincoln's point of arrival on November 18, 1863 and departure on November 19th, following delivery of the Gettysburg Address. As the incomprehensible number of lingering soldiers unleashed chaos around town following the epic Battle of Gettysburg, the station served as a dispersal hub for the less severely wounded, makeshift hospital for more critically wounded, and morgue for those awaiting their final homeward passage.
Such a sad history. Our son is a National Park Ranger, and his next assignment will probably be Washington DC in another year or two. I hope to visit a lot more there then and to make excursions to other parks within driving distance.
Love this composition and your snapshot of history. You can feel the history when you visit this place. Quiet moments at Gettysburg and Antietam are time well spent.
