Walk along the wetlands by seacreature

Walk along the wetlands

Half way around our normal marina walk I saw the tide was low so the path along the edge of the wetlands was high and dry. Decided to take the dogs over the road and take the wetlands path for a change. I think we all enjoyed the change
How lovely. They really stand out.

@islambad They do, don't they. These are lesser flamingos. We have greater flamingos as well but there weren't any near by this morning.

@narayani LOL. I do believe I'm starting to get back to normal again now!

The color of the sea and the flamingos are so beautiful! What is the difference between the two different types of flamingos?

@beckyk365 Thanks Becky. That is actually the Berg River behind them - but it is so tidal this close to the mouth that it is almost like the sea anyway, I guess. The lesser flamingo is very much smaller than the greater flamingo. And the beak of the greater flamingo seems quite clumsy in comparison, with black at the end. You can't tell the difference in size in this photo as there is nothing to relate to, so will try and find an image with both in the same pic to show you

@beckyk365 Here is a link to a photo showing lesser and greater flamingos in the same shot. Note the smaller, lesser flamingos have dark coloured beaks as well as being smaller in stature, and darker red eyes. The greater flamingos have pale beaks with black tips, and pale yellow eyes, so even if I can't compare size I can still identify which is which. https://365project.org/seacreature/365/2016-08-21
