Fish Slice by seanoneill

Fish Slice

This project taxes me at times.

I run 3 businesses and 2 cricket teams, and try to be a good dad and husband too. So, there are rarely enough hours in the day, and 365 can make life difficult at times when work, home and cricket collide.

I try to make my 365 photo something good everyday, but often choose a landscape, flower or macro shot at the detriment of documenting a year in my family's life.

Today I have been working with my new light tent and taking some product shots of a kitchen gadgets range that one of my companies supplies to a UK retailer. So, today's shot might look odd, but it is a proper day in the life shot.

In using one of these shots I have probably saved myself an hour finding another shot, setting it up, processing it etc. I am going to spend that hour catching up with people's work.
you are a very busy man Sean how you manage to cope and find the time to encourage others on here amazes me. You are always so thoughtful and sharing with your comments.

I hear you, brother!
June 19th, 2012
@tracywilliams Aww Tracy, you sweetheart. Your praise is quite humbling. X
June 19th, 2012
@asutherland1964 Cheers Andrew, I thought you amongst others would. Funny thing is I see 365 as a new long lost family member, one that I want to spend a lot of time with to catch up on lost time. It has been very difficult in the last 2 months.
June 19th, 2012
I agree with Tracy!! how do you do? are you Superman?!?... :o))
Nice shot : you are ready to offer your shot for kitchen magazine!!! :D
June 19th, 2012
@svt Lol Sophie. My wife will laugh when she reads your comment. She would call me Grumpyman, Downthepubman, spend toomuchtimewithmycameraman, Worktoohardman, Can'tfindthekitchenman......
June 19th, 2012
Holy dooley... that's full on, Sean! I'm surprised to see you here at all lol. You've done a good job of this shot though.
June 19th, 2012
@ozziehoffy Cheers Cassandra, I rarely sit down and watch TV, so that probably earns me 3 or 4 hours a day compared to most of the population of the western world!! That said, I shall be watching England v Ukraine this evening at our cricket club after net practice!!
June 19th, 2012
Like this Sean, clean crisp lines and so simple.
June 19th, 2012
@jackie8 Thanks Jackie :)
June 19th, 2012
@seanoneill : Hahaha! Love your "nicknames"!! My husband calls me sometimes Worktohardwoman and SpendtoomuchtimeonFacebookGirl too!! ;o))
June 19th, 2012
You put me to shame! I have fallen way behind on 365 lately and have no valid excuse. All I can say for myself is that I seem to be terrible at time management. I like your spatula pic. Looks straight out of a catalogue.
June 19th, 2012
@meisen325 Thanks Monica. Don't put yourself down, we are all different. That's what makes it such a wonderful world.
June 19th, 2012
You are awesome... and your pictures are wonderful.... don't kill yourself with all you do.... that is what makes some of us tick however .... sometimes the busier we are the more we get done.... I so admire your work and the fact that you are a good husband and Dad..... oops off on a tangent....love the spatula....
June 19th, 2012
A very interesting diary shot and commentary. Very professional photograph and now we know how come.
June 19th, 2012
@photos222 Awww Sybil, you want to try living with me!!! I agree though, if you want something doing, ask a busy person!! Thanks for such a lovely comment, and glad you like the spatula :))
June 19th, 2012
@louisefrance Thanks Louise, it was my first go at product photography. Not 100% but I am happy with it, and will learn for the future!!
June 19th, 2012
You have made the humble fish slice look very cool!
Keep up the good work!
June 19th, 2012
Proud of you - a real inspiration to someone who is STILL trying to fit daily photography into the fray. You make me want to be better ... and more consistent! Thank you for that.

(And btw, 'fish slice' is a whole new name in my dictionary. We just call it an egg lifter.)
June 19th, 2012
........and on top of all that you always add such helpful and inspirational comments..........what a man!! I agree the days are just not long enough, here dinner is nearly always late, sometimes scorched and sometimes both!! Soldier on we need you.........great fish slice!
June 19th, 2012
That is a very nice photograph, obviously done by a professional. I did not realize you make your living from photography!
June 19th, 2012
Great arty (in a good way) product shot, they should sell a lot of those now
June 19th, 2012
Goodness Sean you are a busy man & still find time to give me good advice which helps others too I see! I would think this shot isn't as easy as it looks..you have no shadow there at all. Good to see one of the every day shot in the life of Sean O'Neill!
June 19th, 2012
@soboy5 @louisefrance I must assure you both that I am not a professional photographer :) My main business just doesn't have enough employees for me to delegate this sort of work!
June 19th, 2012
@lleucullwyd @pippajeanne @fannyb @primitiveprobe @happypat Thank you everyone, what lovely people you are to say such nice things. You are all very special to me. I want to buy you all a beer (or a coffee if preferred!)
June 19th, 2012
We all know the feeling of trying to keep up... I like this snippet of your world. Part of the reason we are here is to document our lives, I think we often forget that.
June 19th, 2012
@sugarmuser absolutely. I love the challenge of taking a wonderful photograph, but I think I would implode if I tried this everyday!! Somedays it has to be something from my day, not something I have gone out of my way to shoot.
June 19th, 2012
Sean, I've not used my camera since Monday of last week, with my shot of the autumn leaves. I just have no motivation so am enjoying looking at everyone else's photos, including yours (and all the lovely things people have to say about you). I'll have to backfill this past week somehow, sometime but until then.... Maybe I should turn to my kitchen for inspiration. Goodness knows I could probably stock a homewares store on my own. My stuff overflows into my bedroom, I have that much.
June 19th, 2012
Wonderful & wise words Sean....Thanks for sharing your day in the life shot! : )
June 19th, 2012
Good multitasking. Your photos never disappoint!
June 20th, 2012
Even though you're so busy, your shots are always a pleasure to see . Your project is wonderful!
By the way, I looked at the link you sent me....what can i say, now I'm really tempted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!
June 20th, 2012
@rwhite Thanks Robin, how kind of you. I'm not surprised you are tempted, the guys work is incredible!!
June 20th, 2012
Oh i am hearing you Sean...i love this 365 family and have becomes very close with many of you but sometimes there just never seems to be enough hours in the day..I work fulltime, volunteer once a month, visit my mum twice a week since my Dad died, and try to keep the house looking like it resembles some sort of order...Luckily, yes luckily my husband works away during the week because i don't have to listen to him growl because i am either out and about shooting something or on this computer looking at what everyone else is shooting LOL poor him sometimes.. so if i ever miss your photos, please understand :P
June 20th, 2012
You have soon learned how to use the light tent Sean! Amazing how you manage all these things and still make really good comments on the photos of others and replies too.
June 20th, 2012
Pretty darn amazing Sean! I wish I had half of your energy :)
June 21st, 2012
@sheliwithani I am sorry to hear that Sheli, though can absolutely understand it. I often think of giving up, but tell myself that I will feel so bad for missing taking just 1 photo. Still, how great of you to still look in on people. Hope your Mojo returns soon.
June 21st, 2012
@annbo No worries Ann, thanks for your kind words.
June 21st, 2012
@rockinrobyn Cheers Robyn, how kind of you to say so, though they often disappoint me.
June 21st, 2012
@debsulzberger Oh yes I definitely understand Deb, I am the same, I have 200+ followers but for the last 2 months I have only commented on about 40 or 50 regularly. Not because I don't want to, more because there just isn't time! In turn that leads to only 40 or 50 commenting on mine, but that's cool! You keep going, I so enjoy your shots of Tasmania, I so want to vist a place that I knew so litle about before 365.
June 21st, 2012
@yrhenwr Thanks David. I always throw myself headlong into everything I do! It can get in the way of life at times!
June 21st, 2012
@jillmstruss Aww, thanks Jill. I sometimes bite off more than I can chew, then poor old Rebecca has to run around picking up the trail of devastation that I leave behind me!!
June 21st, 2012
You certainly are doing well to shoot, post and especially comment with your busy life. Your day in your life shot is good too. (although I realise that it encompassed work too). Sometimes I have rejected a very ordinary everyday shot as "boring" when actually it was in my day, especially if I cant get to make it interesting in any way!
June 21st, 2012
@jennywren Thanks Jen, it is just a phase I am going through :)) I like being busy really.
June 21st, 2012
What a great conversation this is. I've enjoyed reading and I think the fact that you've commented to so many today, shows your dedication to the project and your followers. Wow, I'm amazed you do what you do. I'm with so many here on the no time or energy for the project, but I'll take it easy now, having read your list! Thanks so much for hanging in there and providing us with thoughtful and also amusing comments.
oh and that is one impressive egg flip! I wonder if I got a light box whether my kitchen utensils would suddenly become top-of-the-range ;-)
June 22nd, 2012
Totally get your frustration - there is never enough time - nice job on this one!
June 22nd, 2012
I want to have your time management skills Sean! :-) You can get all that done plus 365 project and commenting. I have a diy lightbox on my to do list, it might happen when we can't go outside because of the weather.
June 22nd, 2012
@tulipgirl Thanks so much Alicia, I enjoy what you all do, every day my own personal album with my followers and friends shots in is so diverse, it is a pleasure when I can find time to view and comment.
June 22nd, 2012
@lesphoto Cheers Leslie, work can get in the way rather!!!
June 22nd, 2012
@zuzana lol, thanks Zuzana, well I do run an A,B,C list every week, have done for years. It really helps me to stay focussed, that is why I can go off radar on 365 when I am very busy....
June 22nd, 2012
where is the burger I need to put my photo on!!!!
