One too many by seanoneill

One too many

another street shot from Berlin.

I spotted this guy from an underground train, fast asleep on a station platform. He had clearly had one too many.
A sad journalistic photo. The light and shadow emphasize the story well.

I agree with Ross, this image is a sad one and it looks like he permanently has one too many!

Yes, Ross hit the nail on the head. A very sad, but also dramatic storytelling shot here.

Sad shot.

One feels the heaviness... effective shot... :-(

I love this piece. Are you taking it through the window of the train? It has movement to it which is so cool given his stillness.

@rvwalker @paulaw @taffy @ivan @amrita21 @apogee2012 Thank you all for your response to this photo. This photo says "alone" to me. I say that instead of Lonely, because I don't know if the subject is lonely, and it is wrong to project my own perceptions of his situation. Society can be so sad, when people don't conform, or when they fall off the merry go round of work and family. Then again, it was late afternoon, perhaps the guy just had a few drinks on the way home from work. WHo knows...

@seanoneill Yes, I totally agree. Perhaps he was just tired. One never knows the story unless we ask. Our perception is based on our feelings. It is interesting because when I shot the man on the grate everyone responded that it was tragic. Well, that's a natural response. But whoever owns the deli and owns the passage of the grate clearly didn't mind him being there. Maybe he was the owner! Right next door to this is a secondhand shop run by Franciscan nuns. The were bussling about getting their shop ready. Life is funny, isn't it?

@apogee2012 It is indeed. We all project what we want to see or think at times when we see a situation. The balance of probability often means that our perceptions turn out to be vaguely right I think, but we can never know the backstory. I would love to know the story of your sleeping man, and see photos of the Franciscan shopkeepers!

@seanoneill I am quite fascinated by the story myself. I'll let you know. The nuns are pretty fiesty so they could be a challenge to shoot.

Fabulous, Sean! Of course we don't know the story but your timing, framing and processing sets our imagination working. It keeps drawing me back to it. Has to be a fav!
