Clipstone Colliery ~ 7 by seanoneill

Clipstone Colliery ~ 7

A shot from a disused colliery, where I was allowed behind the scenes. I have removed my exif data so that the date the shot was taken isn't public.

This is the internal winding wheel that would wind the coal and the men up and down to the coal face nearly 900m below ground.

Expect to see a lot more shots from this visit, and some even in colour!
What a great shot. Lots of interesting shapes and angle.... How lucky to get behind the scenes.

I thought the colour version was very striking and thought I'd prefer it, but having looked carefully at this, I've enjoyed looking at all the details and textures and I like it better. Both great shots though.

Great capture and looking forward to the others from this visit.

How did you get behind the scenes then?! Great variety of textures, tones and detail.....

@jackie8 I'm afraid that info has to remain classified, as does the date of my visit.

Ooh, that sounds very secretive, furtive and exciting! It's not what you know, but who you know eh!

Fab industrial shapes. Love the intrigue. ;)

Super! Looking forward to more

So interesting to look at this one after the color version. Both have their merits! Love the focus on texture in this one. Love the eye-popping red wheel in the other version.

Fantastic image - how cool that you got to go behind the scenes

very good shot.

There's more? Excellent! This is the drive sheave, which is driven usually by an electric motor. The gear looks old enough to have been driven by steam at one stage. Looks like the rope has been removed and discarded.

love that you did shots of a coal place in b&w. well captured.
February 26th, 2014
Oh yes! How did you get in there, Sean? I'm envious!
February 26th, 2014
i have a, not so secret love, of big 'ol metal gears
gorgeous!

@roadshow You and me both Gloria, I could have spent a week with my camera here!!

@tomtom Thanks Andrew, as you will see from my other shots, this place is in a state of disrepair and was closed many years ago. Thieves have stolen anything light enough to carry away and that includes the rope. Lots more to come here.....

@roadshow I should have said, there are lots of shots of the Winding Gear in my 4 albums over the last week. Just click on my "clipstone colliery" tag
