Barrow backstreets ~ 4 by seanoneill

Barrow backstreets ~ 4

A shot of a lady out walking to the shops from yesterday. A few years ago she wouuld have been able to do her shopping here, but now faces another 10 minute walk to the local Co-Op.

A bitty day here, where I've got a lot done, but had no time for my camera, so am posting a few shots from the last week or two. I managed to catch up with a lot of my friends recent work on 365, but if I haven't reached you yet I hope to tomorrow.
I think you must be permanently lurking to capture these people so obligingly appearing in your shots! Another good backstreet capture, another era.

The b&w is perfect for this shot.

@jennywren I am "The lucky lurker"

Lurker. Ha. Do you ever get busted?

It's sad all the local shops closing!
March 27th, 2014
despite the closed shop and the feeling of sadness...this makes me laugh because of the association "old lady / end of max speed"...sorry ;)

This really looks like a shot from yesteryear. Great candid capture.

Clever!

Sad to see the local shops close.

I love the name of the street and I doubt she will get a speeding ticket. I am really enjoying your series, Sean. fav

I really like this one, capturing the elderly lady just adds to it. I'd love to see what you'd photo if you came down the road towards our village!
March 27th, 2014
Very nice, I get the feeling she's been walking down that street many times. I'm enjoying your transformation from landscape photographer to street shooter.
March 27th, 2014
Just love this - it has such a vintage feel to it.
March 27th, 2014
@newbank I'd have a go at that challenge. Wherefore art thou :-) ?
March 27th, 2014
Lovely shot and I've never thought about the effect of local shops closing on the elderly before. A thought provoking subject.

Great capture. Fav.

Nice one. I like the lonelyness of street and the advice on sign... Wich dangers may find the lady beyond the sign ?

Thank you for your submission :)

@seanoneill I live where batman lives. I'm sure that's just down from you. I'm sure you are just up the road. I recognise the places you say are your village. Not mentioning it by name as not seen any that you have mentioned it by name in....
March 27th, 2014
@newbank very nearby then! I'm having my hair cut in Gotham tomorrow and was intending to bring my camera for a shot I've had in mind for a while! I'm ok to say where I live :-)
March 27th, 2014
Well I for one hope you get time to get the shot and look forward to seeing what has inspired you. Lots of mine come from my walks about the village on school runs with the kids so if you see a buggy with a crazy lady bent over a puddle, flower, tree or something it's probably me!
March 27th, 2014
@newbank I may have given a big clue!! Something to celebrate the South Notts Bus Co!
March 27th, 2014
@newbank I'll keep my eyes peeled for you :-)
March 27th, 2014
My oldest likes looking on the home page at images. He would be so excited to see the bus garage it would be an instant fav.
March 27th, 2014
@newbank is that Sam or Ben? I'll give him a name check!
March 27th, 2014
I like this. Coupled with your previous shot of the postman, I'm beginning to get a feeling that I'm watching that building watching the life happening in front of it.
March 27th, 2014
Love this shot and the woman really makes it
March 27th, 2014
The capture of the Senior adds context. Super shot.
March 28th, 2014
nice shot

This is a story-telling photo. The closed shop and the lady combine to tell a tale of better days past. My own town has a similar story to tell.

This shot somehow reminds me of my childhood. Can't put my finger on why! Images of the past viewed with my minds eye always seem to be in b&w. I think maybe its the lady, As a child i'd go shopping on a Saturday for my elderly neighbours, A thrupenny bit or sometimes sixpence was the reward. Nice shot Sean.

Fab to the nth degree! Hope she was OK leaving the safety zone! Fav of course!

This is a fabulous candid, great story telling.
