tulip in black and white by shannejw

tulip in black and white

This for the B&W Bookclub week 2 http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/20950/bw-book-club-week-2-feb-3-9 - looking at black and white and colour images of scenes that are traditionally shown in b&w - I did warn you that you'd see those tulips again as they continued to die. Black and white version - converted using decomposition to components - and remixing the components in different ways. Colour version here http://365project.org/shannejw/extras/2014-02-08

Thank you for looking and commenting - you're all superstars and I'm madly catching up with your pictures, again.
In B&W it almost seems like a creature. Perhaps a praying Mantis.

Love it in b/w! The lines in the leaves are great.

This I prefer to the colour. I think it's the shadow! Cool

Very interesting shot

This is a powerful image -- I like the way you found beauty in the decayed petals.

@carolyns @irisn @kporte @ourrube @taffy really interesting response to this one - I really couldn't make up my mind between the black and white and colour for this one - often can't for flowers and do a series.

Great textures.

I really like flowers done in black and white, you see so many thinks you don't in when it's in colour.

Dramatic, great tones. I like the high key

B&W made this tulip looks like in sad dying state. Love how two photos have different perspective depending on the colors.

So interesting…looks like an iris. Very cool.

so pretty and delicate - even in decay!

I agree with the others that the black and white is an interesting choice and emphasizes the feeling of decay and mortality. I think I might like the B&W more though if there was a wider range of tones - all the way from black to bright white. I think it is so much middle gray that there is less differentiation than in the color version. Just a thought.

@archaeofrog yes - I posted this here and thought it had lost the tones - I posted this to Flickr too (I don't usually) and there's a better range of tones there http://www.flickr.com/photos/12323897@N04/12396838613/ - still not dramatic enough.

great sense of texture and decay in the b&w :)

I'm really torn on this one. The b&w is more abstract, which makes it interesting to study, especially the lines and textures. But I love the tones of the colour version. My conclusion is that they're both fab :0)

Coolness-I see the textures here much better--:)
