Whitechapel market by shannejw

Whitechapel market

This for the B&W Bookclub week 2 http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/20950/bw-book-club-week-2-feb-3-9 - looking at black and white and colour images of scenes that are traditionally shown in b&w - this is a street candid of a vegetable shop opposite the market stalls on yet another rainy day - I liked the way it captured the raininess and the way it showed the multicultural community in Whitechapel. Colour version - black and white version here - http://365project.org/shannejw/365/2014-02-06

The coloured building in the background is Whitechapel IDEA store, which is where the cafe is found on the fourth floor, with the amazing view of Whitechapel station and views of London

Thank you for looking and commenting - you're all superstars and I'm madly catching up with your pictures, again.

Love how that pink pops! Both captures are lovely, not sure which I prefer.

Definitely more compelling in black and white

@northy yeah - this sort of shot I always convert to b&w because I don't rate the colour. There is another one that actually works better in colour, but that wasn't the point for this challenge.

I much prefer the color version.....seems to have more life to it, which markets are usually full of.

Nice street shot. Like the reflections.

There are certain aspects of each shot I like. The windows in the background are great in color, but I think the rest of this, the color distracts. I'm almost thinking some selective coloring on this one might be in order.

@webfoot I agree that there's too much in this one to work well in black and white, and deliberately chose this shot as the one that was better in monochrome rather than another which had fewer colours and worked better in colour.

@webfoot sorry - meant to say those blues and greens on the building in the background are from Whitechapel Library - which is where I take those shots of the City of London and that shot of angled beams.
