Shopping at Whitechapel Market by shannejw

Shopping at Whitechapel Market

I tried this in b&w but you lose the child in amongst the vegetables. I like the pose of the woman obviously controlling the whole scene.

This is another attempt for the artist challenge http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/21428/artist-challenge-david-hoffman - looking at multicultural Britain and how things are changing. A Victorian photograph of this street and the buildings behind me are shown in a book I have on Jack the Ripper, these stalls serve the Bangladeshi and Somali communities in this area and the stalls are covered with fruit and veg I don't recognise with the stall holders shouting their wares in various languages, sometimes even English.

There's another take on the market my main album http://365project.org/shannejw/365/2014-03-07 and more on Flickr - I actually really liked this picture as an HDR image http://www.flickr.com/photos/12323897@N04/13007639405 but it wasn't a good match for the artist's challenge.

Thank you for looking and for putting my silhouetted commuters on the PP. You're all superstars.

I like the contrast, light, the leading pose of the woman and the combination of vegetables and clothes typical of this kind of market. Very nice !!!
