Walking down the South Bank to find something to eat between a study day at the Globe on Measure for Measure and an evening play: All the Angels. It was a Sam Wannamaker Theatre play about the first performance of Handel's Messiah. The Sam Wannamaker Theatre is the reconstruction of a Jacobean inside theatre, candlelit and tiny, like a little jewel box, but with pretty awful sight lines unless in the best seats. It's being used for experimental theatre, including the Jacobean plays, and is making sense of quotes about hearing plays. There are cheap standing tickets up in the gods which are fine for concerts. Study days are fun, I've been to two, and are held in the Sackler Studios, which is another building, with all the workshops and other space.
