To escape the tediousness of life by shannejw

To escape the tediousness of life

Another shot from yesterday - from the station before catching our train out, processed to create an album cover for the Album Cover Challenge

Artist - Bauke Muller - a Dutch bridge player
Title - Art is merely the refuge which the ingenious have invented, when they were supplied with food and women, to escape the tediousness of life. W Somerset Maugham

On this album Bauke Muller has produced a series poignant songs set to plangent melodies with lyrics describing her life following the birth of her children. She felt trapped caring and longed to travel to escape the routine of being tied to house and home. Her songs tell of the journeys she yearned to take.

Three good things:
1. Daughter did better today following a full day travelling, so we did the right things to make it work for her;
2. Greyer and duller today - which is better for my sunburnt skin
3. I forgot to do this one yesterday, but my daughter found a big white soft rabbit buying supper, and decided to buy it to reward herself for surviving the consultant- and when she paid for it it was at 1/3 price (£4 instead of £12)

Thank you for your views and comments, you're all superstars. I prefer to spend time looking at your pictures rather than thanking you individually below.

Inspired and beautifully done - and this from someone who HATES selective colour!

Well done- selective coloring can be trite when overdone- but its use here is perfect.

This is great. You did luck out with a good title, but you really made a perfect image to go with it.

April 27th, 2019

What a good shot, love the movement. SC not really my cup of tea, but works well here.
April 28th, 2019
Lové the selective color here and the sense of move you suggested ! And I love travelling so this shot talks to me a lot !
April 28th, 2019
@gamelee I don't really like selective colour either, unless it's for a reason, but the background here was very yellow and orange from the display boards and the shop behind, taking black and white brought out the other people moving

@shannejw Yeh, having the background in B&W does emphasise the red colours too. I understand what you mean about some backgrounds being distracting when too colourful.
April 28th, 2019
This is fantastic!
April 28th, 2019
This is great for the challenge

hi Shanne, how about doing a tilt-shift image, using the miniature feature of your camera and/or you can try achieving a similar result through post processing. Getting a high viewpoint of a street scene can help make such an image successful.

btw this is an excellent image and makes a great cover , i voted for it :)
April 28th, 2019
Brilliant shot! Seen on Pop Page.

So creative!
April 29th, 2019
@kali66 that sounds fun - haven't done one for a while, and need to think where I can get a good vantage point this week, but I have some ideas.
April 29th, 2019
Love it ...
April 29th, 2019
An absolutely fabulous album cover. And I love how you have described the album too.
April 29th, 2019
PS - sorry to be reading here and before that your daughter is not well. I do hope the consultant hears everything and she is able to get good treatment and recover.
April 29th, 2019
@helenhall she's hopefully going to be off the current steroid sooner rather than later (June or August, depending on speed of taking her down) and then the consultant will consider looking at the underlying problem. But it means we've had a year of the consultant not doing anything and her not being safe to leave a lot.
April 29th, 2019
@shannejw that's hard for you - and her.
April 29th, 2019
i am so out of the loop, never even saw this and i was pretty sure I've been to your album after this was posted but apparently i wasn't. so sorry for that. and i did not even vote on the last album cover voting or this would've been my choice, too! well, i snooze, i lose, serves me right. sometimes i don't know which planet i'm on or if i'm actually alive or what. :-D but aces on this shot and the processing is bang on. at least the stars were aligned for this to win the challenge. big ACES!
