Rosetta Stone

A few months ago I became frustrated with myself about how much French I have forgotten. I took it in junior high, high school and college - I may not have been fluent, but I was definitely conversant. I was able to get by when my family was in French-speaking Switzerland in 2007, but I knew that I used to be better than that.

Finally, this fall, I decided to do something about this. I ordered Rosetta Stone while I was still training for the New York City Marathon, and I started studying it the week after the race.

Right now I am up to Level 4 (out of five levels). I'm on pace to finish the course of study before the start of the baseball season :)

I realize that the course is only a first step. I have discovered a French conversation club in the area, and I'm going to attend my first event with them at the end of the month. I need to speak French in normal conversational settings in order to really become conversant in the language again.

But Rosetta Stone is a good first step in that direction. It's giving me the rudimentary tools that I'll need in order to take my French language skills to the next level :)
