Yesterday I received the incredibly sad news of the sudden passing of Dana Brand. Dr. Brand was not only a brilliant scholar and a devout Mets fan, but he was one of the kindest and most jovial individuals whom I have had the honor of meeting. I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to spend some time chatting with him this past Saturday; I had no idea at the time it would be the last time I would see him, and I cherish the fact that I had one final chance to be in his company.
Mets Fan and The Last Days of Shea are required reading for anyone with an interest in the Mets and the team's history. I decided, as a tribute, that I would photograph these books displayed on one of my Shea Stadium seats. I think that Dr. Brand would have liked that.
