Catkins at Dusk by shepherdman

Catkins at Dusk

A gloomy day and an early dusk. I was struggling to find a subject for today’s image, but spotted these catkins just as the light was fading (hence the need for a flash). These are alder catkins – needless to say the dangling ones are the male catkins and the small nutty looking ones are female. These were growing on a bush growing from the bottom of a river bank – in fact the roots were probably below the water surface. I almost joined the roots, as the bank crumbled under my weight, sending one foot sliding down the bank, while the other foot stayed where it was. Uncomfortable to say the least.
