The pistes above La Thuile, a resort a few miles away from Cormayeur, where the skiing area is more open and consequently mostly in sunshine all day. Once again I attempted a red run with a steep drop at the beginning, and once again my skis headed off on their own, leaving me to sledge down the slope on my back. I vowed not to try this again, but was back again after a short while when a navigational error found us on a chair lift that unexpectedly took us back to the top of this run. This time I stayed on my skis, although it was not what you would call a controlled descent.
