There are two things that you should take with you on a winter walk – dogs and a camera. Without the first you will probably stay by your fireside, and without the second you are less likely to notice the magical changes to familiar routes. Today we were able to follow a route that I have been avoiding for weeks because of deep squelchy mud, but today we stayed clean. Despite the overcast conditions, it was a wonderful winter walk, across fields, tracks, and through woods, with plenty to photograph. In an hour and a half of walking we saw just three other walkers, but it was much busier on Croft Hill, with the shrieks of people sledging carrying across the fields as we walked. I joined them later, when a friend came over with his young daughter, and equipped with three sledges we were all able to have fun on the slopes.
