I love having a garden with open field views over the fence, but we are vulnerable to invasion. One year the farmer left the field fallow for a season, and a healthy and vibrant crop of groundsel developed. They all seem to go to seed over a couple of days when a light breeze blew the wispy seeds, similar to dandelion seeds, over the garden fence. We had a busy season of weeding the following year. The current farmer has a crop every year, but has left a wide margin of meadow grass around the edge as a “wildlife corridor” and to encourage wild flowers, which includes dandelions. From the wind direction during this walk, there is a fair chance that these seeds will be heading for our garden shortly.
