A bit of a fill in – taken in St Pancras Station during a day trip to London last week. I’m so glad that the appointment that we had to attend in London was last week and not this – even travelling in Leicester in the current hot weather is not particularly pleasant – but my sympathies go to those who have to commute on the London Underground, or queue in London traffic. When we emerged from St Panchras a sign across the road announced that air quality was “Moderate”. Having worked in air quality modelling and measurement for a few years, I know that this sounds better than it is – in Leicester we vary rarely exceed “Low”, and only crept into “Moderate” once or twice when I was in this area of work. Mind you, those living in the tranquillity of the South Downs or on the south coast shouldn’t be complacent – thanks to strong sunshine the level of ozone often causes air quality to be as poor as in London. Oh dear – this turned into an unexpected lecture. Sorry!
