Followers of @shepherdmanswife will know that we undertook a photo expedition to the Derbyshire Dales, to view, walk through, and most importantly photograph the blooming heather. “Surprise View” had been recommended, a popular spot close to Grindleford. I have always enjoyed walking in the Derbyshire Dales, setting off along a moorland footpath, escaping the crowds, getting away from civilization. Thus wasn’t quite like that. First there was finding a parking space. Then there was queuing to purchase the pay-and-display ticket from a machine that only accepted cards, and even then only grudgingly. And of course there was the obligatory ice cream from the van parked conveniently by the gate leading onto the moor. I think that this lass summarised what a social and civilised event a walk at this particular spot was, contently strolling amongst the heather, I-phone at the ready, in her little black cocktail dress and strappy shoes.
