A frosty walk yesterday morning, with just a hint of mist softening the hedgerows. It was crunchy underfoot, but deceptively so- in places the frozen surface was merely a crust over inches of mud, insufficient to support the weight of either dog or man, and despite our best efforts we returned home with muddy paws and boots. Shortly after taking this we met a local acquaintance who used to walk his large Doberman Molly, but sadly he lost Molly a couple of years ago. Nowadays I occasionally see him walking his daughter’s dog, and this morning, just for a change, he was walking his wife. We stopped to chat, and agreed how beneficial it is own a dog in winter. Without a dog it would be tempting to sit sedately at home and observe the wintery countryside. With a dog you have no option but to go out and experience it, and always feel better for the effort. Well, at least I do.
I will no doubt pass this hedge again over the next few days. I must go and investigate what that blue object is.
