My first task in the morning when we are on holiday is open the curtains, peer bleary eyed outside, and announce the weather, before proceeding to my second task of the morning – preparing breakfast in bed. On this particular morning the first job concluded with the announcement “mist-in-the-valley!” and the second job was abandoned in favour of sitting on the patio, photographing the mist-skirted hills in front of us, as fog gradually invaded, creeping in like a tide from from further up the valley. As the fog briefly invaded and the hills disappeared, I was dispatched undertake my traditional second task of the day.
