On our way one evening we raced the sunset, driving alongside a man-made lake, created to control flow on the river below, to the dam on the eastern end to watch the sunset sink over the hills on the far side. Despite a couple of campervans in the adjacent car park, we had the dam to ourselves, walking with the dogs along the track on the top to the centre of the lake, where we stopped to watch, and photograph, the sinking sun, as the rocks along the bottom of the dam turned crimson.
