It was almost dark when we left this dam across a Welsh valley , having successfully raced along the norther shore of the reserve to see the sun set from the dam, perfectly located for sunsets across the eastern end of the reservoir. There was just enough breeze to ripple the water, and we could hear various cheeps and squawks of wildfowl settling down for the night as the wavelets slapped gently onto the rocks below the dam. I would have been happy to stay a little longer, waiting the final daylight to ebb away, but a clear sky is a chilly sky, and so instead we headed back to the cottage, and lit the wood burner.
