We walked around the quarry edge, with its views across the quarry to Croft Hill in one direction and the western half of Leicestershire on the other, a cold wind whipping across the exposed path. It was a relief to descend the steps down to the wildlife pond, the embankment up to the quarry edge sheltering us from the wind. The pond itself wasn’t exactly a reflective mirror, but was unexpectedly calm considering the stiff breeze just a few minutes away.
