For many years @shepherdmanswife and I have gone for a walk on my birthday - somewhere different and for a bit further than the usual dog walks. This year we walked along Mam Tor. We arrived in fog, walked in fog, started the return trip in fog, but then the sun emerged to illuminate the glorious views that we should have seen throughout the route. As we arrived back at the Mam Tor trig point, above the car, the path behind us trailed into the distance, ascending three climbs to the point where earlier we had turned back to retrace our steps. I wondered if @shepherdmanswife would have set off so purposefully from the start if she had seen the route before us.
