Fairy Falls by shepherdman

Fairy Falls

A trip to Isle of Skye. Our cottage is level with the northern tip of Skye. Unfortunately, the Skye bridge is at the southern end of the island, almost 100 miles just to get to the island. On Skye we wanted to visit “Fairy Pools” waterfalls, based purely on a postcard that I had bought. While trying to find the falls, we had a “wow” moment when a golden eagle swooped down just a few feet in front of the car, in classic pose, wings back and claws forward, as it disappeared over a hedge, an absolutely wonderful sight. At the falls @shepherdmanswife expected a coffee shop, maybe a gift shop and a short trail to the falls. No facilities; the falls were 2 miles along a stony track up a hillside, steep and rocky in places. “I’m not walking that far!” exclaims Chantal. I pointed out that we had travelled over 100 miles to see the falls, and so we walked. The falls were not particularly dramatic, but the pools between were a vivid blue, and it was a most enjoyable walk to get to them. Just as we got to the top, rain swept down the valley, and we were soaked by the time we returned to the car. It was a damp 106-mile journey home, enlivened by seeing three separate deer peering at us from the roadside undergrowth as we passed.
What a great day in the rain we had!

A great image, with an equally great story. I think you have also learned that a Scottish Highlands Hundred Mile trip is far longer ( but much more interesting), than just jumping on to a Leicestershire motorway for a quick hundred mile trip.

As a quick PS, it is much better to visit here at this time of year, whatever the weather, there are far fewer people around. It is getting too popular in the summer.

Fav -- these are beautiful against such a stark background. The mist adds mystery.

@markp It's the A roads that took me by surprise. 1 minute a straight fast road, the next a single track with passing places. You don't ignore Road Narrows" signs around here!

The scenery up that way is just magical - I am sure this view was worth the walk (and getting wet). I'm in Oz - so a long way away but the Isle of Skye is one place I wouldn't mind going too. Beautiful shot.

I've never been to Scotland but I really need to - Skye is top of my list there! This is just my kind of place, what a beautiful shot!
