Strike a Light by shepherdmanswife

Strike a Light

I tried lots of different settings in manual taking about 50 shots before I got this. The problem I had was getting the flame in focus as I couldn't see it in live view with the settings I was using as it was too dark.
I'm happy with this one as a first attempt but would welcome critique and advice to help me make it better next time I try.
your focus on the match head is spot on

Very beautiful. I like the soft swing in the flame. But oh god, how much matches did you use!?

I find using candles a lot easier. ;) I adore the shape of the flame and your time was well spent (as well as the matches). I think the composition may be improved slightly by placing the matchstick off-center so the eye is drawn diagonally from the stick all the way to the tip of the flame. I'm not sure what the shiny thing is in the bottom right but I find it a little distracting from the main subject. It has a lovely shine though.

I have no advice but love the soft grace here

Wow, this is great, really like the curving effect.

Also thanks for the memory flashback, my Nan never swore, instead she used to say strike a light. You gave me such a smile this morning:0)

Great lighting and capture. Spot on.

Very cool, well captured. I have done a match shot a few weeks back and it is not that simple, took me so many attempts to get something looking good! Great shot

Great shot, well worth the effort.

Very cool shot, I think not the flame but the matchstick (or at least the head) should be in focus.. A flame has so much motion that I think it will be hard to get it in focus correctly.

I think this is really good. It's really difficult to get the focus and the exposure right in this kind of thing - fav

Fabulous. Fav.

This is very well done indeed. The softness of the flame and the focus on the match head is perfect.

It sounds so difficult and yet the shot looks effortless. Pure poetry.
