I tried lots of different settings in manual taking about 50 shots before I got this. The problem I had was getting the flame in focus as I couldn't see it in live view with the settings I was using as it was too dark.
I'm happy with this one as a first attempt but would welcome critique and advice to help me make it better next time I try.
I find using candles a lot easier. ;) I adore the shape of the flame and your time was well spent (as well as the matches). I think the composition may be improved slightly by placing the matchstick off-center so the eye is drawn diagonally from the stick all the way to the tip of the flame. I'm not sure what the shiny thing is in the bottom right but I find it a little distracting from the main subject. It has a lovely shine though.
Very cool, well captured. I have done a match shot a few weeks back and it is not that simple, took me so many attempts to get something looking good! Great shot
Very cool shot, I think not the flame but the matchstick (or at least the head) should be in focus.. A flame has so much motion that I think it will be hard to get it in focus correctly.
Also thanks for the memory flashback, my Nan never swore, instead she used to say strike a light. You gave me such a smile this morning:0)
