at Dimminsdale which is a 6.5ha nature reserve owned by Severn Trent Water and managed by the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust. The whole reserve has been affected by its history of mineral extraction. Limestone and lead mining took place in the 18th and 19th Centuries and, when these ceased, the quarries flooded to create pools and brooks. The varied geology has resulted in a good mix of habitats - scrub, damp woodland, open water and glades. Each Spring, the reserve is carpeted with a spectacular display of snowdrops.
Unfortunately it was a horrid damp dull dark day and we got there too late for much light at all so didn't have time to get any spectacular shots of the whole glade. We will however try to go back on a sunny day!
