This is our Hellebore plant that grows in our front garden. It causes quite a stir for some reason. Two ladies passed by and stopped to take photographs of it and commented what a fantastic plant, and the best they'd seen! What a compliment. The next day a man and a lady walked past, the lady pointing to the plant as she commented to her friend.
I must admit it is a very nice specimen and really brightens the garden.
While I'm familiar with the name, I wasn't familiar with the flowers. They're exquisite. I've seen others here on 365, and I plan to see if I might be able to grow them in my Nova Scotia garden. I'd love to have blooms like that!
@thistle It used to be in the back garden but it didn't like it there so @shepherdman moved it to the front of the house where it has a lot more sunshine. He also told me that when the plant buds, just before the flowers open, he picks the leaves off so the flowers show up more. He mulches home made compost around the plant in winter but apart from that nothing else. It is a beautiful vibrant colour. Hope it stays that way.
I have one Hellebore that was grown for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. It is a pale yellow colour - I love that it flowers now before the Spring really gets going. Yours has fantastic colour - beautiful detailed shot!
