I've now got Pleurisy and am on antibiotics again for the second time in 2 1/2 weeks. Will be so glad to feel better. I'm really missing being able to go out and take photos.
I had last week off work as sick but struggled back into work this week when I really shouldn't have done. Trouble is my employers, who I have been with for nearly 30 years, gave me a written warning for triggering more than 10 days off in one year, 2 years ago. I had double pneumonia and pleurisy and was in hospital for a week then off for a further 2 weeks to recover. I have a damaged lung and so am very susceptible to chest infections, where others would just get a simple cold. I had to go a whole year without being off sick at all for the warning to be lifted. If I had any time off in that 12 month period I would have received a second written warning. Off one more day and get fired as they say I would not be fit to work.
So here I am, working whilst feeling like death warmed up, just so I don't get another written warning. You would think that they would be sensible enough to apply these rules to those who take regular days off after a boozy night out, not those that have a problem and carry on working when ill.
So, that's my rant for today. It makes me feel a bit better.
That sounds just miserable and pleurisy is so painful! Can't believe you are having to work when so ill. That's terrible. How do they think you are going to get well if you can't rest? Hope you get well soon, you need new employers who have a heart and some commonsense!
Great macro.
Striking photo, but more alarming is the treatment by your employers. Most companies here will at least allow leave without pay when sick leave has been exhausted. Hope you heal quickly, and maybe even find a more compassionate employer.
Lovely low saturation shot, shep. So sorry to hear about your chest issues, not to mention your boss problems. Get well soon and then you can show the powers that be what you really are. Fav.
So sorry to hear about your further health problems Chantel!! Your bosses sound horrendous and so unfeeling!! Surely with a doctors certificate you should get a slight relaxation of the rules!! A Fav for your wonderful macro!!
Love this bee with the pollen all over it. Bumblebees have been put on the endangered species list. Sorry about your illness. Were I worked (before retiring) we had FMLA (family medical leave act) and FIL (family illness leave). They protected employees to a degree, allowing them time off. If one had vacation or sick time to cover, one could get paid and if not, one could take off without pay. Both promised a similar position (if the same one was not available) upon return. An amazing benefit that I used twice.
I'm sickened by your treatment at work. There's no way you should be working when so ill. Although I'll only get SSP when I go in for my ops at least my employers are reasonable and sympathetic. I hope you get well really soon xx
Goodness, that's tough re work! Unfortunately the minority who take advantage spoil it for the others and you can't possible work to your best when you feel dreadful so you'd think they'd want you better faster through r&r! Anyway, hopefully the drugs will kick in and you'll be back to normal soon. Excellent macro by the way. Get well soon.
Oh no, I'm so sorry you're ailing and not able to take the time off you need to recover fully. That sounds like a very tacky rule--especially considering how long you've been working for them. Hope you feel better soon.
wow - what a shitty thing (pardon my French) for your work to do to you - they know you're a good worker and not one that takes advantage of being off for no particular reason. I feel for you. Hope you get better sooner rather than later for your sake. But as to your photo, it's a great macro shot. Your photos never cease to amaze me though.
I recently retired from the fire service and their sickness procedure/monitoring is similar to yours. Everyone gets treated the same was their motto. Unfortunately there will always be people in the workplace that regard sickness as part of their annual leave entitlement. All employee's should be treated case by case. I hope you are soon well and able to get out and about, it's frustrating I know when you love to get out with your camera, but can't. Wonderful shot BTW.
Nice shot hope you feel better soon sickness policy's are really getting over the top these days my wife had similar issue when she worked in education.
What fabulous detail on your shot - had a hard time believing that after 30 years they'd even question an employee who's quite obviously sick. Hoping this new round of antibiotics works quickly!
Beautiful bee photo though I am very allergic to bees! So sorry you are ill and are still expected to work...does not seem right. Your health is most important!
Fantastic shot! Shame they can't see sense where you work, seems to be the way of the world nowadays - punish even the reliable staff for other people's bad behaviour, hope you recover soon. Fav for your shot though - your photography is always breathtaking, perhaps you could take this up professionally and say bye-bye to your current job?!
Where I worked for 27 years followed the same policy, I didn't fall foul of that ridiculous count system (so unfair on people like you who are genuinely ill) I did it the other way and have been off ill since February 2016! genuinely. Hope you get well soon Chantal.
Are there no provisions for people, who need an extended period off to recover, to go on some sort of disability leave with at least partial pay during that time? Seems a daft policy to make ill people go in when it will, in the end, make their recovery take longer and also leads to people potentially attending work when they may well pass something around and cause their whole group to get sick.
Great macro.
