minutes before they landed in this tree they were seen swarming in my friends garden. These would probably have left a commercial hive and went off with their queen to look for a better home. This was them having a rest before finding somewhere to make their home. What a great sight. I was told by a bee keeper that there were about 30,000 bees in this clump which was the size of a football!
They are so fascinating! We had one like this in our farm garden - had to get a bee keeper to come and relocate them. He said that a new "queen" leaves a hive to set up her own and many workers follow her to start a new colony. fav
