My get pushed challenge this past week was to take a photo of the ugly. Wow! That's hard! I don't go out in search of the ugly. I try to avoid it at all costs! And tho there are times when I feel like all I can see is ugly (like the dead of winter), and there are other times I feel like I can't find anything beautiful, searching out the ugly is much harder than I thought! So it's been an adventure this week to try to see things differently, and I learned two things. First of all, as I was searching for ugly, I found a whole lot of beautiful and have ended up being much more active with my camera this week than I've been lately. Secondly, I found out there was a line between what I was willing to photograph and what I wasn't willing to photograph even when there was beauty to be found in it. Surprising, and yet not. So Joan, I have to thank you for your challenge on more levels than I could have imagined!
Ok, so this is not exactly ugly, but it's not beautiful either. It's some of the aftermath of the firepit party. And I took part of the ugly challenge to be finding a way to make beauty of the ugly. Did I succeed? I don't know, but here it is anyway.
Great shot. You have been busy. Oh sometimes I can't finish a can of soda and other times I want to cry because I want more and have self-limited myself.
Thanks for my challenge Ashley, I'll dig the tripod out and try something in the garden. For your challenge how about an image that involves a reflection of some sort. It could be in a mirror, water or anything else you can think of?
I find these to be particularly ugly when they get tossed on the road side after their contents have been emptied- so your interpretation works for me!! Good shot.
Your commentary on this picture was quite interesting to read. Avoiding the ugly is probably something a majority of photographers attempt to do so I would think the challenge was a tough one indeed.
