So the sun came thru for me last night at Cove Beach and gave me the opportunity to try these pilings again. I stayed with it for about 30 minutes after sunset. Gave a whole new meaning to the blue hour! I was completely blown away by how blue everything got thru my lens! This is a 15 second exposure. In hindsight, I wish I had taken some 30 second exposures, but oh well. I'm going to run a few through Silver Efex, but wanted to get the color version up here too.
Again, critique requested! This is a 4x5 (or 8x10) layout. It's down to the wire, and I need to make a decision one way or the other.... :-)
@maggiemae I was just about to tag you to ask for your opinion! The rules state that, other than cropping, you can't take anything out of the photo. Is it too busy?
@joansmor Joan, I shoot in RAW. I have LR, PS, the OnOne Suite, and the Efex Suite. Now, if only I had access to some classes!!! (Our here in BFE, luxuries like that are sadly rare.) There IS a PS class taught at our local community college, but those who have taken it say the instructor spends most of the time focusing on how to organize your photos, so I haven't bothered to take his class. I end up watching a lot of YouTube!
I think I might look at the Efex Suite but not until I retire. You can do some amazing things with that I think. I learned LR from Anthony Morganti on You Tube. He has a website http://www.anthonymorganti.com/ Love this because I can reply all I want and pause to try things out well watching.
I prefer color in nearly everything and love it in this photo. I too don't think the horizon is busy, don't see anything but a line that separates it from sky and water!! The water looks silky and mysterious, I wouldn't be surprised if the lockness monster would show his head at any moment!! Love this and a BIG FAV!
Of the three pictures you've shared of this scene, this blue one has the Wow! factor for me. Love the softness of the water and the stark and loneliness of the dilapidated pier.
@shesnapped Hi Ashley, we are get pushed partners this coming week. I've had a browse through your photos and you've got an amazing selection of nature shots at sunset. How about you venture out to capture something man-made and portray it in a different light situation? Perhaps at night to give it an air of mystery?
@whimsicalgrateful Marta, I stopped at a favorite birding location last night on my way home and realized that there was a made structure there that kept drawing my eye... So I've already got a few shots. Your challenge has intrigued me!
