My get pushed challenge for the week by Saxa is a b&w minimalist photo. I've never done minimalist before, so this is definitely a challenge!
I've had my plumeria tree for about 10 years now. It started as a Y-shaped stick from Disney that we carried home on the plane and stuck in cactus dirt once we all arrived safely. Well, the darn thing actually took root and started growing. And for three years that Y grew taller and taller. It got leaves each summer and shed them each winter when we brought it indoors, but it was still a Y. Then, just as we thought we were doomed to another year of just leaves, Y sprouted some flowers! Oh glorious day!!! Hallelujah!!! Celebration!!!
Y has become a huge tree. Each place that the tree puts out flowers, a new branch grows the following year. It barely fits thru the door anymore, and dh dreads carrying it in and out each year, but it's SO worth the effort! To give him credit, he has never broken a branch off. The flowers smell absolutely heavenly! All during summer, whenever a flower falls off, I take it to work and either share it or keep it for myself on my desk.
Y got knocked over yesterday from the wind we had, and his final blooming branch of the season was broken off. I put it on the counter and kept eyeballing it. It kept calling out to me. The flowers are really hard to photograph. Mostly they're not positioned at a convenient angle on the tree, and once they've fallen or been picked, they lay funny. Furthermore, the texture is so subtle it seems nearly impossible to capture. But there they were, still on the branch, blooms and buds ...
So as a sendoff to the season, in honor of their glory, here they are! These are yellow and white, so beautiful as I caught them in the original, and SO shockingly gorgeous in b&w. Turns out this works for my challenge this week!
