My bff came to visit this weekend! It's been almost 2 1/2 years since she's made the trek out here to this part of the world, and a little over a year since I've seen her in person. We always have a wonderful time and ALWAYS find stuff to giggle about! She was with me last year after the twins were born and I attempted to do a newborn shoot - notice the word I used there: attempted! The photos were mostly a flop, but we had a great time together. We were fortunate enough to capture video, thanks to her, of the male child rolling off the stack of pillows while Nana was trying in vain to position the girl child. Ammunition for the parents to yank away my grandma card if they ever decide to do so! :-) We had a fantastic laugh over that one, and still do whenever we revisit that video!
Anyway, she's kind of the one who got me interested in photography to begin with, and when we get together, we have our cameras out. She also taught me years ago to appreciate a rainy day, which was fortunate since that was what we had to play with yesterday as we set out on our adventure. The really coolest ever thing yesterday was her letting me use her Canon 100-400 zoom lens! She has the original with the push/pull zoom and, according to her, the one without all the bells and whistles. But OMG!!!! In the bleak rain, wind, clouds and cold, I took photos that my little lens would NEVER take! And THEN we got back here and put the stuff on the big screen, and she taught me a few things about sharpening! YES!!!! I just love that girl!
So, this weekend, the egrets are back! YAY SPRING!!!! They were NOT back last weekend, and I know that because I went out looking. But they're definitely back this weekend. And I'm so glad I got to play with such a sweet piece of glass! This is no spectacular photo, but it's so much more than I would have gotten with my lens. I can't begin to imagine what I could have captured if we'd had nice sunny day! And a little sharpening really does go a long way.
Guess who's smiling sweetly at her dh now since she really would love to have a lens as sweet as this one....
