For only the second time ever, the babies have made the trip to Nana's house! Dh and I drove the 8 hours down to their house Friday after work and arrived at 1:30am. Not completely unusual, but hitting the road at 5pm on Saturday with them in tow and Mommy following in her van WAS unusual!
We timed it so we could stop an hour and a half later and feed them supper at a park and let them run around for a while, hoping that would wear them out sufficiently so they would sleep in the car. They're not exactly happy when they have to ride to Walmart, so we were all concerned about their riding 8 hours. They did ok for the first half hour, but that was about it. So Nana got the bright idea to use her phone as a Hotspot and run some YouTube Elmo videos off the laptop. It worked!!! They were content! I seat-belted my laptop to the middle seat between them which folds down into an armrest/cupholder, and they could both see it, and all went well. But they didn't fall asleep. So around 10:15, I climbed over the seats, took the laptop's spot, and found the 11 hour baby's version of Pachelbel's Canon. It took a little bit, but they finally went to sleep.
We got home close to 2am, unloaded the car, got their room and gear set up, re-settled them, because of course they woke up, and we were in bed by 3:30am. Needless to say, Nana had to get a nap Sunday afternoon!
Happy to report that they've settled right in and are on their normal schedule for the most part. They don't seem to be too affected by the change of scenery in their bedroom, and when there is an issue, we just turn that 11 hour version of baby Pachelbel's Canon back on, and they go right on to sleep. Yay!!!
They love our local park which we've visited twice now. And attached to the park is a small zoo of all rescued animals. They LOVED the zoo! The Wicomico River flows right thru the park and the zoo, so there are geese and ducks galore, which is Garrit's favorite, as well as pelicans and swans and sandhill cranes and all kinds of other water fowl. Garrit loves the "wawa" and "gucks" and just runs back and forth pointing and exclaiming. (Garrit doesn't walk. He runs.) Val is the little lady and respectfully watches everything in her reserved little manner.
And Nana got to be in the picture that Mommy took!!
