Went to Chincoteague to take some final photos with the Canon lens I love SO much, and needed to put my long johns on before trying to catch the swans. But I didn’t want to drive to one of the port-a-johns to change - too far and too COLD. No one was around. So I changed in the car. :-D
Now, I’m not a selfie kinda person. Nor am I an exhibitionist by any stretch of the imagination. Nonetheless, when I just about had my adventure pants almost all the way back on over those thermals, I got a little tickled at myself and thought, “this would be a great introduction to the world of selfies.”
However, I had the long lens on my Canon, and that certainly wasn’t going to capture this shot. Ah! But smart me had brought along the new Nikon, and it had the 50 on it ... in the back seat, of course. So I reached all the way behind me and dug it out of the camera bag, making sure my rear parts stayed glued to the seat, just in case, then turned back around and snapped a few shots, stretching all the way back in my seat to allow for minimum focusing distance between the lens and the subject, camera obviously pointed at, um, my adventure pants! And THEN I remembered that Lightroom wasn’t reading .nef files, whatever those are, so I had to sit there, with my adventure pants still only partially up, and dig my way thru the menu system to find the jpg setting, then stretch all the way back again to allow for that focusing distance you understand, with the camera pointed at my, um, PANTS ... and when I looked up, I noticed an older couple was driving by, real slow, watching me ... HAHAHAHA!!! Bet I’ll be a topic of conversation for a little while!
Turns out .nef is Nikon’s raw extension. Don’t know why I convinced myself that it was .dng. DUH! I guess that’s what aging does to your brain! Anyway, a quick Lightroom CC update when I got home took care of being able to read the files, and this photo is actually one of the first I shot.
I chuckled so loud reading this that my husband wanted to know the story! Boy the 850 takes great photos. I’d be tempted but I’m moving into Sony more and more
