Another busy day on the farm. Once a year the sheep have to be clipped. We do not do this ourselves we get contractors in. They come with a trailer where the sheep run up a race from where the clippers catch them and clip them. It takes them about one minuet to clip each sheep. The wool is then wrapped and put into huge sacks called wool sheets and sent to the wool marketing board, where it will go into the clothing industry and some to make carpets.
Really interesting collage!! The only time i have seen sheep which had just been sheered was on holiday in NZ. I went for a walk and came across this farmer who was clipping the sheep and he invited me into the shed to watch and take photos. The sheep all looked like they had been through a blender - lots of cuts and bleeding - I was not very impressed!!
Fantastic collage telling this story on the farm. I've watched the shearers at agricultural shows and have always been blown away by their skills and you've captured it all so well. Fav.
Oh brilliant, a wonderful story well told! It gave me a real rush of emotion as I used to work in many a woodshed at shearing time here in Australian, when I studied Woolclassing!
What a great collage showing the process of sheering the sheep from beginning to end!! I bet the sheep feel a bit chilly the first day? LOL Great job! FAV!
Out on the boards
The old shearer stands
grasping his shears
In his thin bony hands
Fixes his gaze
On the bare bellied joe
Lordy if he gets him
Won't he make the Ringer go
Click go the shears boys
Click click click
Wide is his blow
And his hands move quick
The Ringer looks around
And is beaten by a blow
And curses the old snagger
With the bare bellied joe
The old shearer stands
grasping his shears
In his thin bony hands
Fixes his gaze
On the bare bellied joe
Lordy if he gets him
Won't he make the Ringer go
Click go the shears boys
Click click click
Wide is his blow
And his hands move quick
The Ringer looks around
And is beaten by a blow
And curses the old snagger
With the bare bellied joe
Lots of slang and colloquialisms here but it is an old Oz folk song See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb2bq5Wjxto @pamknowler
We do have the odd accident if the sheep kick or struggle at the wrong moment, it is inevitable really but on the whole the clippers are very careful and as you can see the majority of our sheep come through unscathed. @sueb47 I think the weather we have been having they would wish they still had their wool on. @nicoleterheide Thanks for the words of the song and the link. I have just watched and listened to it and it paints the picture so well.
