On our way home from Thorp Perrow arboretum we came through the Swaledale valley. This is part of North Yorkshire. There are miles of drystone walls and it is dotted with carefully preserved field Houses. Which are stone barns which were used to house stock and crops during the winter. This pattern of walls field houses is a special feature of Swaledale. There are also some meadows which are protected as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the varying and abundant wild flowers in them.
My favourite part of the country! So beautiful with the dry stone walls and stone barns. I haven’t been able to get up there this year and I am missing it! Fav!
