Today was the Borderway Agri-Expo show held at Carlisle auction. It is a one day show for any beef breed of animal. We were entered in the British Blue breed calf show. This is Bank Lane Kruger our 8 month old bull. Our daughter is showing him. They are judged by looks, mobility, growth, and fitness. The judge is just about to feel him to see how fit he is. (The judges hand is the blurred image on the right hand side.) A good handler should be watch and be aware of the judge at all times which is what our daughter is concentrating on. He was placed 3rd in his class.
@dizzyd Thank you for the comment. They can help with the value of the animal when you come to sell them, especially if they win a lot of shows. They also get the animal seen by a lot of people in the hope that somebody takes a liking to them and wants to buy them.
@snowy Thank you Diana, Our daughter is very confident and loves to show the animals. She grew up on the farm and has always taken a keen interest in the cattle, now she is a large animal vet and is used to handling cattle.
@hermann thank you for your comment, there were others in the ring with her but are out of sight because they are presented to the judge one at a time and the others stay back.
@maggiemae Thank you for commenting on my picture. It takes a long time and a lot of work to get the animals to walk on the helter, stand right and virtually be bomb proof.
A very nice British Blue Shirley....he looks a handsome well formed boy. I know nothing much about beef animals as we were dairy but he has a good top line. Well done for third place, not easy with all the good breeders at Carlise.
@happypat Thank you Pat, I will pass your comments on to my hubby and daughter. There are breeders from all over the country come to this event it just gets bigger and bigger every year.
@flowerfairyann Thank you Ann, we were very happy with 3rd place, considering the animal that took the overall champion was in the same call as our little boy.
Do these competitions help with the value of any future breeding programmes ?
