Herdwick sheep

Herdwick sheep are native to the Lake district hills. It is a very hardy breed and is prized for both it's wool which is very warm and hard wearing as well as it's meat which has been described as the Queens of meats. It has a very distinct grey coat, white head and thick stumpy white legs.

Although the wool is warm and hard wearing it is not worth a lot and the main of it goes for making carpets. Hand spinners do like to work with it though.
