I was thrilled today to see the baby woodpecker at my feeders with it's Daddy. The adult bird flew off as soon as I approached the window but this little one sat for quite a while. You can tell the young because they haven't fully got the red under their tails and have a full red cap. The male of this species has red on the back of his head and the female has no red, so at this stage you can't tell if the young are male or female.
Sorry I have not had time to comment on your wonderful pictures, sometimes life takes over especially this time of year. I do manage to look at most of them and love reading all the interesting information.
