1953 Vincent Series C Comet 500cc single motor bike
We have been to the Lakeland Motor Museum at Backbarrow today. It is a wonderful museum with so much to see. Normally after being somewhere like this I would be hard pushed to choose what to post as my days picture. But not today. I have chosen this motor bike because it used to belong to my Uncle. He had seen an advert for a motor cycle exhibition and thought he would contact the owner of the museum, who was putting of the exhibition and offer some Literature and old motor bike parts he still had lying around his home. When the owner rang back and asked my Uncle if he could remember the registration of the bike he had owned, it turned out the museum had the very bike and it was on display there. My Uncle bought the bike in 1953 and sold it 62 years ago for £50, never expecting to see it again. Today he was told, the bike is worth £15,000......if only we had a crystal ball. He was however very happy to see the bike again and to know it was well looked after and in a local museum.
I seem to be way behind with my comments again - sorry - I do however view all your wonderful pictures and love seeing them all. Sorry also that this isn't to great a picture but there were so many motorbikes on display around the one I wanted I could not isolate the one I wanted.
Great shot and even more great story. If I had the crystal ball and to choose between 15.000 of it`s place in a museum I wander what I had done. The place?
It has been beautifully renovated! Story a bit the same as hubby - bought a velocette motorbike in 1953 then a couple of years ago bought the same model from the same year! Its in the garage!
