A Sad Loss

There was a beautiful live oak behind the Chinese pistache (the leafless tree). If you look closely you will see two large branches have been removed. Soon after the third branch was removed then the trunk and finally the stump. That magnificent tree is just sawdust today. Why? Because its roots were making the sidewalk raise, creating a tripping hazard and because it was encroaching the water main.
Very sad indeed, but sounds like it was a necessity.

Always sad to see a tree lost.

How awful Debbie, but that is nature claiming it's right of way. Here on our estate the driveways are constantly being redone due to roots of trees pushing up the bricks.

Oh, that’s always heartbreaking to see.

Bit sad really. There are other options.

@johnfalconer They’ve tried for two years to just shave down the sidewalk, but the roots were encroaching on the water main and apparently there is a gas line nearby. I certainly wish they had tried harder. Our community is called an urban forest. Special permission must be acquired to cut an oak. I hope they did an honest effort. It also shaded the west end of our house which was a blessing in the summer.

We are cutting the branch we are sitting on!

Our neighbor just massacred all the trees in his front yard. We have no idea why. Our living room is going to be an oven this summer now that there are no trees shading it from that side. Even though this is so sad, at least there was a somewhat valid reason for cutting it down. Sharing your grief!
