As I continued my hike, I arrived at this curious stump. I've seen a lot of tree stumps in my time but never one that was cut in this manner. Best viewed enlarged to see the textures in the wood.

Nicely shot; great textures and light and love the bokeh. I've seen these occasionally around here. They are faced posts called 'half-round posts' and are usually used for fencing. The flat side provides a good surface for attaching boards.
@girlie Thanks, Robin. This one was right smack in the middle of protected woods so I don;t think they will be attaching anything to it, I have never seen a split stump in these woods before.
